“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

– Psalms 23:4

Over the past few days, I have emphasized that we don’t have to live in fear because God has not abandoned His people. Many have memorized Psalm 23, and I’m sure you are familiar with verse four: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.” We know this to be a dark valley, right? Yet, the Psalmist declares, “I will fear no evil.” There’s a reason you don’t need to be afraid. Why? Because God is with you.

We have to learn to say, “I will fear no evil.” When feelings of fear and worry arise—as they do for all of us—you must counter them with the Word of God. Remind yourself: It is written! Even in the darkest valley, fear will not help you. It won’t give you a clear mind, victory, or peace. Spreading fear or sharing it with others won’t help either. Instead, decide to embrace possibility thinking—thoughts of victory, faith, and trust in God’s Word. Life is too short to waste it worrying.

My friend, God is in control. He is with me, and He is with you as well. Remind yourself: “I will fear no evil.” Say this when your knees are buckling, when you’re overwhelmed with emotion, when you receive bad news, or when you feel unwell. Fear is not from God, and you must cast it down. Always remember: God has not given you a spirit of fear—He is with you!

Prayer

Father, I will fear no evil, especially when feelings of fear and worry arise. Help me to counter them with Your Word!
