“Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: ‘Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign Lord, is for a mere human!’” – 2 Samuel 7: 18-19

By the way, the heart is not all about emotions. In the bible, the heart is about will. It’s about what you choose to do; it’s about courage. In spite of not being the tallest, the best looking, or the most regal, you say yes Lord, I say yes, I will do what you call me to do. It’s about the heart! David is anointed. The Bible says when he was anointed, the spirit of the Lord came upon him and remained with him. David was not a perfect guy. He made lots of mistakes; he was even, in a way, a murderer. In spite of that, God continued to use him to do a lot of good in the world. In our own lives, we think of all sorts of reasons why God can’t use us. We gather all of our flaws, sins, and mistakes and we explain to God over and over, saying  God, you don’t understand. I can’t do that. Don’t you know who I am? You know how God replies? He says I know exactly who you are. You’re my beloved child. You have everything it takes. You have everything you need. You’re salt and you’re light and the world needs you.

PRAYER: Dear God, thank you for using David despite his flaws and mistakes. Thank you for using me even when I feel unusable.

REFLECTION: When has God surprised you by using you in your weakness?
