It’s hard to imagine, but it’s December 1st and that means that Christmas is right around the corner. For the days leading up to the holiday, I encourage you to set aside a brief time each morning to be still and ponder the true meaning of the season. I pray these devotions will be helpful as you keep your eyes fixed on the One around whom this time of year truly revolves.

If you’re anything like me, I tend to be way busier than usual during the holidays; yet these are the hours and days in which I should be most keenly aware of the Prince of Peace and His living presence in my life. I love the fact that the coming Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ, was called Immanuel, which means “God with us.” No matter where we go or what we do, our Lord is present there. In times of mourning, rejoicing, fellowshipping, or worshipping, He is in our midst and He loves us perfectly. Our circumstances, priorities, and emotions change, but He never wavers or falters. 

Friend, as things ramp up and you are tempted to fall prey to the insanity of holiday hurriedness, remember that Jesus is with you so there’s no need to fret. When things around you are chaotic and your nerves are frayed as you think about the many tasks you still have to do, He beckons you to be still. Before you surrender to the ruthless rush, purposefully quiet your thoughts and hit the reset button on your focus. Harken back to a silent night in Bethlehem and let the long-expected Savior flood your heart with His peace.
