“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

– Galatians 5:22,23

I’m always careful of religious people who don’t have joy or who can’t laugh at a joke. If someone can’t celebrate, they don’t have love. When the Scripture teaches that the fruit of the Spirit is love and joy, it is describing different parts of one fruit. In the same way an apple is red on the outside and white on the inside, so the Spirit of God is love on the outside and joy on the inside. That’s why Jesus uses a wedding and not a funeral as a description for the Kingdom of God. It’s a celebration! It’s awesome and it’s something you don’t want to miss out on! You and I need to become people full of the Holy Spirit, overflowing with oil, surrounded by many friends and drawing people because of our infectious joy.

Prayer

God, fill me with your Spirit and give me a joy that overflows to those around me.
