“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
-Genesis 2:15
Unless you’re doing something that’s unjust, or harming people, or are a workaholic, I want you to know something: God is pleased with your work. And whatever you do in your day-to-day life as work is a blessing to the Lord, and is in many ways what you were created to do.
We, as God’s people, are called to work passionately. If you want to enjoy your life, you have to enjoy your work.
I always think that life is spent in three eight-hour chunks in 24 hours. You get about eight hours of work, you get about eight hours of play, and you get about eight hours of sleep. So, if you take the sleep out of that, half of your waking life, if you’re average, is going to be work. And, whatever you do, God is pleased.
Prayer: Dear Lord, as I work half of my waking hours, I will do it for you. My joy is that I am bringing you joy as I work. Amen.
Reflection: How does your work bring your joy?
