“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
– Matthew 2:11
Friends, as we wrap up this Christmas season and prepare to enter a new year, I’d like us to learn one more lesson from the Magi. The Magi had something valuable to offer; they brought real treasures, and they were there to give. Each of us should strive to contribute something to the world. If you feel like you don’t have anything to give, you can discover and cultivate the treasure within you. Spend a little time every day focusing on personal growth. You can help others while also investing in yourself—through reading, spending time in prayer, and personal development—so your life can improve as much as it should.
I want to encourage you with this thought: Life improves as you grow and develop yourself. We refer to this process as discipleship. Dedicate time every day, whether it’s twenty minutes, an hour, or whatever you can manage, to cultivate this inner treasure. The Apostle Paul tells us that we have this treasure in clay jars to demonstrate that the power comes not from us but from God. By working on developing the strength within us, we reveal to the world what God can accomplish through ordinary people like you and me. Friend, as you step into the new year, remember that Jesus is with you! While it’s great to set big goals, don’t overlook the importance of small ones as well. Small goals are crucial because they help us to get moving; they can create momentum and encourage action instead of getting stuck in our thoughts. It’s perfectly fine to start small, but as you gain momentum, be sure to stay partnered with the Lord and continue to give as you grow. |
Prayer
Father, help me recognize the smaller goals that will enable me to achieve my larger goals.
