“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”
– Isaiah 61:1
![]() When we come to know Jesus, He imparts to us the call to proclaim good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, and share freedom with captives. And while this sounds overwhelming upon first hearing, the truth is that He has chosen us specifically for the job. In fact, He has anointed and set us apart to break spiritual strongholds and pass on divine power — the key is that we must believe it! We are equipped to do everything our Savior says we can do, because our anointing has nothing to do with our talents or training, but solely with His sufficiency. He knew what He was doing when He picked us, and He wasn’t blind to any of our sins or struggles. In fact, He wanted us because He knew that our journey would be an inspiration to others. This is why He beckons us not to hide our weaknesses for fear of being disqualified; though we sometimes fall short, we will never be unchosen. Even if we have a secret sin or some kind of baggage that we keep switching from one hand to the other, it doesn’t catch Him by surprise. He is working to redeem every part of our story so that our whole life becomes a witness to His power. The best thing we can do is get up each day and resolve to take the next step He illuminates on the path to healing. My friend, you’re going to do great things in the Kingdom of God! You’re alive right now by divine design, and nothing can disqualify you from your call. No matter how badly you backslide, the Lord’s hand is upon you, and He has chosen you to break chains and set captives free. Each part of your journey has a purpose, and even in the midst of struggle, He is making you stronger. Keep the faith, put your confidence in what is unseen, and know that the One who chose you is unfailingly faithful. He is able to take every circumstance and situation and cause them all to come together to reveal His glory, both in your life and in the lives of others! |
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for anointing me to carry out your call on earth. I trust you to use every part of my story to bring you glory.
Reflection
Is there something in your life you feel disqualifies you from being used by God? If so, take a moment to talk to Him about it.
