“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.”

– Psalm 23:1-3

We will be looking at Psalm 23 for the next few days as we continue talking about living a life without lack and having everything we need in the sufficiency of God’s Kingdom. I encourage you to memorize individual Psalm verses as we go through them so you may dwell on them and truly let their truth sink into your spirit!

The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing. We have a good Shepherd and in His love, we have everything that we need.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. Sheep lie down in green meadows when they have had enough to eat. A pasture is where flocks go to eat, and when they are full, they lie down and rest, perfectly happy and at ease. For me, it’s similar to saying I’m laying down on a field of pizzas. I’ve consumed everything I’m capable of and am satisfied. Whatever your situation may be, rest certain that the Good Shepherd will provide for you. He will never leave you hungry or without enough; He will provide for all of your needs so that you have more than enough!

He leads me beside quiet waters. He refreshes my soul. Your soul’s thirst is quenched by God. In His presence, all the craziness, sleeplessness, and tireless drive come to a rest. In addition, He heals and repairs your soul’s wounds. Life is difficult, and we are sometimes handed a severe blow. If you smash your thumb with a hammer, you will be aware of it for the next few days; it will draw attention to itself. But, in the end, Jesus heals it, just as He heals everything else. He will restore you so that you can love and give love again, no matter how deep or severe the wound is.

He helps guide me along right paths for his name’s sake. Friend, righteousness is the natural outgrowth of a healed soul! You can’t help but do the right thing to your neighbor when you are satisfied, whole, and resting in Jesus’ sufficiency. Spending time in the presence of the Good Shepherd and relaxing in the security He provides causes you to grow in likeness to Him. You will be filled with His Spirit as you follow Him, watch Him, and listen to His loving voice, and your life will become a reflection of His goodness!
