He Will Never Give Up

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?”

– Psalm 22:1

You know when you read the Psalms, most of the Psalms are Psalms of lament. I think it’s like well if they’re broken up into four categories, the largest category is lament, and I want to say there’s 60 or 65 Psalms of lament — of David just saying, “God, where are you. God, why have you abandoned me. God, why have you forgotten me.” In the Jewish liturgy, they had to sing these songs even if they were having a great day. Even if they just won the lottery, they had to sing like David, saying, “God, why have you abandoned me?” Why? Because when things are going really good and then they drop off a cliff, there are a million and one reasons why we don’t want to tell anybody that life is not going well. It’s one of the worst things we can do. That’s when we get isolated and lonely. I want you to know that God is strong and He’s fighting for you. He is the Lord of Armies, He loves you, and He will never give up on you. He will never stop fighting for you; He will never quit on you.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for never abandoning me. Even when I think you have, you are still there. You will bring me to victory.

Reflection

Are things going well? Or have they dropped off a cliff?
