 To lay down your life for your friends, as Jesus tells us, means committing ourselves to daily disciplines and the little things in life. It’s important to respect ourselves—this includes how we dress, the company we keep, and the words we use. However, we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously. If you are always very serious, or if you constantly maintain the serious demeanor of an eagle, as the Romans used to say, it will be difficult for you to grow, learn, and ultimately become the kind of person that those in your life need.
You can dedicate yourself to the little things just as a farmer commits to the land. By nurturing the seeds you plant in your life, you’ll eventually reap a tremendous harvest. The Bible mentions reaping in terms of producing 30, 60, or even 100 times what you sow. This concept is significant because the seeds you are planting today are strong indicators of your future. So, nurture those seeds, and you will ultimately harvest a bountiful crop in all the areas that matter in your life. Friend, today, many people ask, “What does the world owe me?” or “What does my boss, family, country or church owe me?” A more relevant question, especially during this Christmas season, is: “What do I owe my family and those around me?” Consider what your loved ones, community, and work need from you. If you want to make a difference, think about how you can meet the world’s needs. Transformation takes time and consistent effort, but with dedication and the help of the Holy Spirit, you can become anything you aspire to be. |

Father, today help me plant the right seeds that will yield a bountiful crop in all the important areas of my life.
