“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’”
-Romans 8:14-15

Do you remember the craziness of Y2K? As the 20th Century was ending and the 21st was to begin, there were many churches striking fear in the hearts of their congregants, saying that the end of the world was coming, Christ was set to return, and we had better be ready. They were saying that, if we read Revelation under just the right light, and moved a couple things around, we’d be able to see clearly that in the year 2000, it was all going to be over.

At that time, I was really blessed to be under the leadership of Pastor Willie George, who said, “Christ is going to return, but when he returns, nobody’s going to expect it. The one time Christ is going to return is when everybody stops talking about it.”

During 1999, there was a lot of talking and a lot of fear, not just in the Church but all around the world. The theory was that all the computers were going to fall, the economy was going to collapse, planes were going to fall out of the sky, and somehow buildings were going to crumble spontaneously. But, what actually happened? Nothing but a few minor glitches. Life went on. And God had the victory. He had our futures in his hands, and he still does. Why worry? God is in control.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for being in control. With you in charge of my life, all I need to do is stay connected with you and follow you wherever you lead me. Amen.

REFLECTION: How do you feel knowing that God is ultimately in control?

  1. I only wish I had wisdom enough when I was younger to let go and let God. Things would be very different from what they are today. But yet I rise.
