“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”
– 2 Corinthians 5:20
![]() What or who do you think of when you hear the word ambassador? I tend to envision a man or woman of great poise, who is empowered to represent a country in its diplomatic affairs with another nation. Always appointed by their homeland and delegated the authority to speak on its behalf, they are responsible for the presence and impression their country makes in a foreign land. While most of us will never have the experience of being an ambassador in the political sense, the truth is that we are all ambassadors in the Kingdom of God. As those saved, redeemed, set apart, and commissioned to bring the presence of Jesus to a world that is lost and broken, we are entrusted every day with a divine assignment — to reconcile the world to our Savior. By offering an alternative to a confused society that is trying hard to navigate in an increasingly shadowy world, we have the privilege of introducing desperately-needed divine help and healing. As committed disciples who have anchored our souls to Jesus, we can bring His presence to others in the little things of daily life — by extending a helping hand, showing unwarranted kindness, or returning an insult with unconditional love. By consistently modeling to others a more excellent way, we can proclaim the Gospel of peace without preaching or posturing. My friend, you are God’s ambassador! As you seek Him in the midst of this trying time, you have the awesome privilege of bringing His hope and reconciliation to a hurting and divided culture. When you wake up each morning mindful of your mission as a representative of His values, He will breathe new life and meaning into your everyday encounters. No matter how insignificant you feel, as you partner with the Holy Spirit, He will use you to bring help and encouragement to others. Rest in Him, allow His goodness to flow through you, and you will experience the full honor and manifold blessings of being a diplomat in the Kingdom of God! |
Prayer
Jesus, empower me by your Holy Spirit to be an ambassador who represents you well, both in word and in deed.
