Let’s Be People of Faith

“ ‘Have faith in God,’ Jesus answered. ‘Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, “Go, throw yourself into the sea,” and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.’ ”

– Mark 11:22,23

Throughout the next few days, I will continue to share highlights from my trip to Israel. Last week, we discussed the lack of faith of the citizens of Nazareth and how the city of Capernaum and the surrounding area witnessed many miracles performed by Jesus. My encouragement for today is to be a person of faith. Let’s be faith and let us see faith as not something we feel (although that’s part of it sometimes), but let us see faith as what we actually do.

I envision faith as a little girl trying to go across the monkey bars at a playground and there’s her dad standing behind her. She’s scared and worried, but her dad says, “Just keep going. I got you.” Folks, that’s what faith is. It’s the sense of security this girl feels knowing that she’ll be okay even if her hands slip. And it’s like that in life when you choose faith over fear.

Friend, your life can have a similar feeling when you are called by your Heavenly Father to take that next step of faith forward in your goals and dreams. Yes it can feel uncertain and perhaps others in your circle don’t move with you, but this is an act of faith. It’s not really about your emotions. It’s about the action, not your thinking surrounding it. When you’re on the high dive, it’s about whether you jump or not jump. Do you go, or do you not go? Do you take action or do you not take action? I encourage you to take action and move ahead. That’s what faith is all about!

Prayer

Father, I know you are with me even when I feel uncertain.
