 As I discussed over the past few days, we can each practice the principles of pause, prayer, and giving thanks. Additionally, I envision you cherishing the peace that you cannot explain! The process of cleaning house and drawing closer to God gives you an opportunity to fill the extra bandwidth with life-giving content. When you create bandwidth, create open space, and then just sit around, it won’t take long before you start worrying again. The anger returns, and you feel sorry for yourself once again. Life must be infused into your new bandwidth.
Jesus shared a parable from Luke 11: An impure spirit comes out of a person because they cast it out, or Jesus casts it out. It searches for a place of rest in arid areas. After failing to find rest, it returns to the original host and sees that everything has been swept and arranged. To empower itself, it gathers seven more evil friends, and they fill the place, and it’s seven times worse than before. The way I read this is: You can have a clean house and a safe space, and you can have everything in order, but if you leave it empty, that’s not good. Friend, in that case, what do you do? By filling that empty space with what is good, you don’t let what isn’t good take its place. That makes sense, doesn’t it? We are encouraged in Philippians 4:8 to fill our house with whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable! God’s excellence and praise are reflected in this life-giving content. |
