“For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.”

– Psalm 27:5

We can all relate to King David as you study his life; it goes through waves. Don’t we all experience the highs and lows in the process of life? As you review David’s life through the Psalms, you see the excellent phases and the tough situations he experienced. What’s shocking is not so much that David is a train wreck, but that God loves him so much.

It’s obvious David has a special place in God’s heart. In Acts 13:22b, God testified concerning him: “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” I’ve often asked myself this question: What makes David so special? And I think what makes David so special is that his heart is always flowing for the Lord. He’s always yearning for and communicating with God. And when he’s an idiot and has made a mistake, he owns up to it. He says “Lord, I am a fool. I’m so sorry. Please forgive me.” And God continually says you are forgiven. God’s love is amazing and so great. This gives me hope and should give you encouragement.

Friend, during the ups and downs of David’s life he considered God his stronghold and place of refuge. He also acknowledged the Lord as his light and salvation. “Salvation” does not just mean going to heaven when you die. Your salvation is your body, your soul, and your mind. God cares about it all. He cares about everything internally and externally that concerns you. Know that God’s love for you is greater than you could ever imagine!

Prayer

Father, thank you for being my light and salvation during the ups and downs of life.

Reflection

Do you acknowledge God’s care for you? How does God continue to forgive you?
