Live Life With Open Hands

“The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.”

– Deuteronomy 28:12

Here are some encouraging thoughts to dwell on as you start your day: God is all sufficient; He’s all joyous, all powerful, and all loving. In fact, there is no more joyful being in the world than the Lord. Even better, He is thinking about you, He knows you by name, and He knows how many hairs are on your head! Wow! I know my kids and I love them immensely, but I guarantee you I don’t know how many hairs are on their heads. Nevertheless, Jesus takes the time to notice these things. He’s near, not far, and He has all the time, energy, and power that is needed in this world. Even better, He wants to live in constant relationship and fellowship with you, supplying all of your needs as an overflow of who He is!

Friend, because God is abounding with goodness, generosity, and joy, you don’t have to be defensive, protective, or live life with closed fists, trying to hold tightly to what you have. Instead, you can keep a posture of open hands, knowing that your Heavenly Father’s abundance is greater than any lack you could ever perceive. He is generous with you, so you can be generous with others. The more you internalize the depths of His almightiness and sufficiency, the more you can give to your neighbor without fear of depletion. Whether time, energy, or resources, there is nothing you pour out that He cannot and will not re-supply in greater measure! His resources are limitless and as you lean into His sufficiency, your life has even greater meaning, depth, and richness! Isn’t that a wonderful thought?

Prayer

I pray, Jesus, for your help as I live life with open hands, not closed fists. I want to be generous with what you have given to me and to trust the fullness of your sufficiency to provide for me.

Reflection
