Living in Response to Love

“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”

– 1 Peter 1:14-16

Seek to build your life in response to God’s love.

Imagine two teenagers dating for the first time. You don’t have to tell them to talk to each other, to go on more dates, or to call or text each other more often. In reality, all they do is talk to each other and about each other; they want to spend every waking minute together. That’s because their interactions come from a place of love, excitement and passion.

Shouldn’t that be what our faith is like? Our passion and love for God should be natural. People shouldn’t have to tell us to do things for Him. Instead, it should flow from within us because we know we’re loved. That’s the kind of life we want to live. Holiness is rooted in intimacy and not willpower; it doesn’t come from white knuckling and trying harder, but from a deep, awesome relationship with God. When you know with all your heart that He loves you, praise and passion for Him will be a natural response.

Jesus, please continue to reveal your love to me so that passion for your Name flows naturally and freely.
