“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”
– Psalm 68:5,6
![]() Emotional isolation kills the soul. The first five months of human life are foundational to the health of body, mind, and spirit because that’s when bonding happens. As a baby internalizes the love of his mother, even when she is gone later in life, her love remains present inside of him and allows him to be a loving & empathic person. This carries on through life; we never get to the point where we don’t need to take in love. If you’re not regularly internalizing the love of your your spouse, your kids, or your neighbors and receiving empathy, compassion and vulnerability, you start to become exhausted. This is where depression and anxiety are rooted; from there, numbness and deadness to life emerge. Lack of love leads you to loss of vision and a sense of purposelessness. We see this in many people today. When people reject themselves and don’t think they’re worthy of love and belonging, they are afraid to show their messiness. When a person opens up — when they reveal their skeletons, addictions, sins and doubts to others who wrap their arms around them and love them — the hidden and cut off parts come back to life. Friends, this is the miracle of living in Jesus; He enables us to infuse His abundant life into the spirits of those who have long been cut off and dead. As He works in and through us, we can offer emotional and spiritual healing to others — we only need to be willing! |
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for being the source of abundant life and for using me to spread that life to those around me.
Reflection
Has receiving love from another person ever brought dead parts of your spirit back to life? How can you give the same kind of love to others?
One Response
Everybody’s dead; there’s just me left.

Being alone? I’m used to it…
