At Hour of Power, we strive to spread the message of love and dignity all across the globe in any way we can. Our very own Jonathan Thonglom recently returned from his heart-opening experience in Myanmar, where he traveled during Christmas with his mission group to warm the hearts of children in orphanages and young adults in school. Because the nation is predominantly Buddhist, Christians may only worship in public during the Christmas season. What a wonderful chance to take advantage of this blessing!
Jonathan’s first stop on his journey was in Yangon, which is where Love Children’s Home, the orphanage, is located. LCH was started by Pastor Peter, who runs a total of 12 orphanages throughout the nation of Myanmar. Jonathan and a team of 17 other volunteers participated in Christmas activities with the children and learned from one another by sharing the gift of God’s love. LCH has a population of about 150 students who are educated and treated like family. The love of each child beamed brightly through their ceaseless generosity, offering up their blessings to the volunteers so that they could share a part of their joy. Jonathan mentioned upon his return that, although the children did not yet know the mission group personally, they prayed for each person’s health and happiness individually. This spectacular mission group assured the children that they all have spiritual mothers and fathers overseas at Hour of Power who are praying for them every day as well.
According to Jonathan, this experience can be summed up in one word: Life! Each day was filled with the realization that all the children and inhabitants of Yangon wanted to help one another and their visitors. And when confronted with the opportunity for them to gain salvation, that was the ultimate gift which triumphed over food and money.
As Jonathan stood before our staff, dawning a traditional handmade Burmese scarf and smiling with the most genuine joy, he encouraged all of us to remember that God wants us to be alive. He wants to breathe life into our visions and dreams and to make a difference by spreading love and hospitality.
We are blessed to have such generous people on our staff at Hour of Power, who volunteer to help spread God’s love across the globe. As we listen to and experience these fantastic stories from all over the world, we are reminded that love and dignity knows no boundaries.
