Missions Minute: Mike Sunker and the 5C’s

“Bring the little children to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.” -Matthew 19:14

Recently at Shepherd’s Grove and Irvine Presbyterian Church, we were honored to welcome Rev. Mike Sunker to share about his ministry! He is the founder and director of Christ Church Christian Care Center (5Cs) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

5Cs currently houses, clothes, feeds, and educates over 70 children. 5Cs is an oasis in Johannesburg’s Hillbrow district, an impoverished area with vast numbers of homeless children, high crime, and rampant HIV/AIDS infection.

The objectives of the 5C’s ministry are:

Rescue homeless and vulnerable children from the cycle of poverty.

Restore their self-worth and dignity.

Provide a safe environment where they can pursue their dreams and aspirations.

Encourage a relationship with Christ through the Gospel.

Although the 5Cs is caring for 70 needy children, they don’t have space and resources to accommodate more children from the community. It is Mike’s dream to expand the center,  providing care the literal thousands of children in the community that are crying out for help.

If you are lead to support the 5C’s today, there is actually an exciting matching challenge happening NOW! The 5C’s have a donor that is willing to match any donations made in the next month, up to $25,000. A gift in any amount is life-changing to a child in need! For example, a $200 gift provides tuition, clothes, room, and board for a child for one month. All donors will receive a prayer card with a child’s picture and bio.
