“When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. ‘Lord, have mercy on my son,’ he said. ‘He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.’ ‘You unbelieving and perverse generation,’ Jesus replied, ‘how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.’ Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, ‘Why couldn’t we drive it out?’ He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’”

– Matthew 17:14-21

At first glance, it appears that these verses from Matthew 17 are instructing us on the subject of healing; however, I believe they are really teaching us what it means to have Spiritual authority over demonic forces in the world and what it looks like to cast down whatever is not from God. Jesus teaches us in this passage that we can speak to our mountains and command them to move. You don’t have to pray to God to move the mountain, nor do you need to ask Him if it is His will for it to happen, you simply need to say to the mountain, “MOVE,” and it will go! If you have faith, Jesus says that nothing will be impossible for you. This is the Word of God, it’s either true or it isn’t.

Friend, we must become people who understand that we live in a physical world that is influenced by Spiritual things. We are not helpless in the realm of the supernatural, but rather, we have been granted authority to exercise power over it. Ultimately, this power will manifest changes in the physical that will be evident in and to the world around us.

You see, God wants to work in your life. When you feel scared and timid or pinned in a corner, stop looking for someone to pray for you and start praying for yourself. Cease searching for a man or woman of God to help you and become a man or woman of God! Don’t wait any longer; believe the Word, act according to it, and command mountains to move in Jesus’ Name! He’s given you Heavenly authority, so listen to His voice, speak to darkness, and bring His light to an increasingly dark and scary world.

Prayer

Jesus, I commit to being your voice in this dark world, and I thank you for giving me the authority to speak to mountains and command them to move in your Name.

Reflection

Do you believe you have authority to move mountains in the Name of Jesus? What does this mean to you?

  1. Does this mean that we don’t ask you or Shepherd’s Grove to pray with or for us? You say to call or write to ask for prayer for ourselves or someone we love.
