“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” -Hebrews 4:12

When you look at a stereograph, these popular 3-D images from the ‘90s, most everyone eventually can see the 3-D image, but you have to train your eyes to look at the image differently. I believe the way we look at a stereograph is very much like seeing the world the way Jesus sees it.

Some of us see a two-dimensional, meaningless world before us. And, because all we see is pointless, all we see has no depth, and all we see is darkness, our hearts and minds are filled with futility and gloom. But, the problem is we’re only looking at the images before us; we’re not looking through. We’re not looking for something that is deeper, something that is richer beneath the first look.

If you can look past the two-dimensional world, there is a depth in the world that you live in. God is at work here. God has victories in store. God is moving. His Holy Spirit is active in history right now. Let’s step out of our 2-D perceptions and start living in the hope-filled, multidimensional world God offers us each day.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, sometimes I let the ugliness in this world overshadow the beauty and the blessings. When that happens, help me to remember that you are alive and powerful and overcoming the cares of the world, and give me peace. Amen.

REFLECTION: When life is getting you down, what is it about God in your life that lifts you back up again?
