New Doors

By Russ Jacobson, Chief Operating Officer of Hour of Power

I meet my dear friend Charles for lunch every month.  Just last month Charles and I were talking about doors.  I am not sure how we got on the subject, but we starting rattling off Bible passages about doors.  There are lots of them!  Here are just two examples:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”  (Revelation 3:20)

Charles told me that he had never looked for a job his whole life.  He just waited for God to open doors and walked through them.  The next time we met for lunch, Charles had lost his job that very morning.  A door that Charles had wanted to stay open had shut.  He did not want it to close, but it was not his decision.  We grieved together and wondered what the future held.

Well, sure enough, Charles started getting job offers the very next day.  His inbox was flooded with colleagues looking to hire Charles for his substantial expertise.  Yes, one door had closed, but several others had opened.

Doors open and close in our lives.  That is just the nature of things.   The truth is that we like our rooms — they are comfortable and it is tempting not to leave them.  Walking through a door takes courage and conviction.  But moving forward is what God calls us to do.

What does 2018 have in store for you?  Here at Hour of Power, we are hoping to move to a new location, invest in technology, update the show and sponsor a choir tour to the Netherlands.  These are big doors!

I don’t know how this year will unfold for you, but you can rest assured that God is good.  Some doors are going to open for you, and other doors will close.  But the decision is yours alone:  Will you step out in faith in 2018?
