“Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.”
– 1 Corinthians 4:5
![]() Do you have a secret? The dictionary defines something secret as “that which is kept from knowledge or view.” Sometimes we incorrectly believe that hiding things is the best or only way to deal with them; that somehow ignoring our own mistakes or the wrongs done to us by someone else will make them go away. While this might work (at least for a season) here on earth, there are no secrets in the Kingdom of Heaven. Since God is outside of time and above all that we see, nothing is hidden from Him. In fact, because we are made in His image, we are not designed to keep secrets. As hard as we might try, the things we hold inside will ultimately wear us down, forcing them into the light. Nowhere is the truth of “no secrets” more evident than in our thoughts. Did you know that what you think about cannot remain a secret? Though only God knows what crosses your mind from moment-to-moment, what you dwell on and give attention to ultimately becomes your reality. Once your thoughts crystalize into circumstance, your secret musings are exposed for the world to see. For instance, if you dwell every day on how unfair your life is and harbor bitterness in your heart, it will be evident in your words, expressions, and behavior. On the contrary, if your mind is full of compassion and affirmation towards your friends and family, it will show in your actions, your words, and how you spend your time and money. Secret thoughts produce visible evidence! Friend, you are not made to hold secrets! Every hidden thing in your heart has the potential to shape the course of your life and thereby impact those around you positively or negatively. Choose your best life today by tending to your mind — nurture thoughts that are life-giving and disregard the ones that tear your down. Live in the fullness of God’s light, align your thinking with His, and allow Him to expose and heal the sins, hurts and wrongs done in darkness. The truth sets you free, so embrace it today and watch your life change! |
Prayer
Jesus, I give you my secret thoughts and circumstances, and I ask you to shine your love and healing on them. May I have your mind in all things.
Reflection
What “secret” circumstances or thoughts do you hold that could potentially cause you harm? Will you bring them into God’s light today?
