“…neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I’m going to cue you in. Bad things are in your future. Bad things are in my future. They’re going to happen. But God will always have the victory. You will never be separated from his love. Nothing can separate you from his love in the midst of those things. Don’t worry!
When Paul says “height nor depth” in Romans 8:39, do you know what that means? He’s using astrological terms. He’s referring to the stars. The specific words he’s using would have been well known to the reader in Greek. It’s when the stars go high and when the stars go low. People in this day were under the tyranny of destiny, the tyranny of the stars. This pervading thought was that everyone had a destiny, born under a particular star, and there was nothing that he or she could do to alter some tragic course that was set before him or her.
It’s not in the stars. Nothing that you are afraid of happening in the future needs your concern today. Your future is safe in God’s big, strong, loving hands.
