“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
– 2 Timothy 1:7
![]() One of the things I love most about children is their purity of heart and the way it manifests in a lack of fear. Because they haven’t been beaten up by the world, their outlook is simple and they are willing to do things for others that you and I might not. When my daughter Haven was seven years old, our then-children’s pastor asked her and the other Sunday school students to invite their friends to church to see a Christmas program they were putting on. Taking his request quite seriously, Haven printed invitations for every student in her first grade class and hand-delivered them to each classmate along with a verbal invitation to come and hear about Jesus. Though I wasn’t totally surprised, it delighted me to find out that a few of them actually came! In fact, one family is still attending Shepherd’s Grove because of my daughter’s willingness to simply extend an invitation. Though it exemplified the beauty and simplicity of childhood, her availability is something we should all aspire to. My challenge to you today, my friend, is not to overthink the assignments God gives you. When He nudges your heart with an opportunity to be His hands and feet, don’t wait too long or you may talk yourself out of it. Logic will not always agree with the Spirit’s promptings, and your mind can easily find a way to extricate itself from the Lord’s leading. Therefore, I encourage you to practice responding to His voice by letting your faith be greater than your fear. Go when He says go, even if it means taking a risk, because that choice might just have an eternal impact! |
Prayer
Jesus, nudge my spirit when you need me to move, and give me the faith to step out and go.
Reflection
How has someone in your life benefitted from your willingness to step out in faith?
