 Today, I will delve deeper into additional obstacles that challenge our faith. Many times, because our lives are on autopilot, these observations can easily be overlooked, and before you know it, you may align more with the world’s viewpoint, than faith in our great God. Yesterday, we shared our first concerns, which were the news that often focuses on fear and the obstacles of apathy, doubt, and laziness.
Here’s obstacle number three: rigidity, particularly concerning the scriptures. As Christians, we love and cherish the Bible. However, the Bible doesn’t always make sense. I had a pastor friend who lost his faith over one specific verse, and it wasn’t even a deep theological issue. I told him that it was merely a mistranslation, yet he completely lost his faith over it. I wish he had reached out to me, but by that time, he had already abandoned his beliefs. This situation all began with rigidity. Our final obstacle of faith is what I refer to as the “Did God really say?” syndrome. Remember when the serpent speaks to Eve in the Bible? He prompts her to eat the apple by asking, “Did God really say?” I can imagine her responding, “You know, that was like 10,000 years ago, and I’m trying to remember. Do you remember? Did God really say?” Friend, throughout your life, obstacles to your faith will surround you. However, you must remain steadfast in your faith and stay the course. In John 16:33 Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” |
Prayer
Father, guide me in deepening my faith, particularly in the areas of the Bible that challenge my understanding.
