“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

– Isaiah 41:30

Yesterday, I shared an encouragement to spend time learning about the Lord’s character through nature, especially in this time of “sheltering in place,” which demands that many of us slow down and spend more time close to home. Today, I want to expand on that thought by going back to something that I preached on a couple of months ago — seeing our Savior in the birds of the air. To start off, I want to talk about the eagle. If you’ve been involved with Hour of Power for any amount of time, you know that my Grandpa Schuller loved eagles. In fact, for many years, we’ve honored those who choose to support this ministry on a monthly basis by calling them eagle partners. The reason for this designation is because of all the things God designed, the eagle soars above the rest. With keen vision, a strong nurturing instinct, incredible strength, and the ability to fly higher than nearly any other bird, these majestic creatures exemplify the characteristics of a mature Christ-follower. However, they don’t start out that way. The process of a baby hatchling becoming an adult bird is a difficult one, and it requires pain and persistence before triumph. Thankfully, since female eagles are totally invested in the journey of their young, they remain present to challenge and support them as they grow and develop.

My friend, in a season that demands patience and fortitude, you are an eagle. Though you may feel like a fledgling who is struggling to keep moving forward, the truth is that you are growing stronger and more mature through every obstacle you endure. As you deal with adversity and overcome challenges that bring you face-to-face with your own limitations, your Heavenly Father is upholding, guiding, and supporting you with keen vision and unending strength. While He lovingly pushes you out of the nest of safety and comfort, He is undergirding you with His power and protecting you under the shadow of His wings. Yes, you are being stretched, but as you wait upon the Lord, your hope and strength are being renewed and you are learning to soar!

Prayer

Jesus, I ask for grace in a difficult time so I can soar into a life of greater strength and higher vision.

Reflection

How is the Lord giving you the strength to soar in this season, even while sheltering in place?
