To everyone who is feeling down or disheartened today, I want to declare that one moment is all it takes for things to turn around, and I believe your moment is coming! As dark and stagnant as your situation may look right now, in the blink of an eye, God can step in and change your circumstances, and I’m certain He will. He is not slow in keeping His promises — it’s just that He exists on a timetable that’s much different than ours. Knowing this, He beckons us to continue confessing His goodness with the assurance that He will make His presence known at just the right time and in just the right place. In fact, the suddenness with which He works reminds me of a literary device that was used frequently in ancient Greek plays. It’s called “Deus ex Machina,” which in Latin means “got out of a machine,” and it refers to the moment in the unfolding of a story when an actor — dressed like Apollo with wings — was suspended from a crane and flew above the scene to declare how it all ended. Then, with no ado or fanfare, the play was over and the audience went home. Though literary critics are, understandably, not big fans of this method, I really like it, because it speaks to how quickly the Lord moves. As a pastor, I’ve heard story after story from people about their situations getting worse and their circumstances snowballing, when suddenly, the Holy Spirit intervenes and everything turns around. And if He did it for them, He’ll do it for all of us, too.
My friend, you serve the One who loves to do the impossible! When God comes on the scene, chains are broken, lives are transformed, and miracles are manifest. Though His ways aren’t always clear, Jesus is always working, and at the moment you feel like you just can’t go on, He’ll move a mountain to reveal Himself to you. He is faithful, and He will never leave you, so keep expecting Him to show up and let Hope in His good plan carry you ahead!
