Pastor Bobby’s Response to COVID-19

Dear Hour of Power Family,

It’s good to know that nothing takes God by surprise, isn’t it? Like me, I’m sure you’ve been hearing a lot about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Though this is certainly an unprecedented time in the history of our country and our world, we can rest in the confidence that the Lord’s love and goodness never change. He is with us to lead, guide, protect and be an ever-present help in this time of trouble. As a ministry, here’s how we are responding to this crisis and how we’re here for you:

*In response to local authorities and the governor’s recent request, we’ve made the important decision to cancel all in-person worship services at Shepherd’s Grove until further notice. We feel this is the prudent thing to do in an effort to protect our multi-generational community, especially the elderly and those with special needs, who are most vulnerable. Our staff is also working remotely in this time and has adapted quickly to the rapidly changing environment and new demands of this season.

*Thankfully, the gift of technology means we are still having service, only online! We invite you to join us on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. PT at hourofpower.org/live or on our YouTube page or my Facebook page. I encourage you to gather with your family and friends, have a watch party from the comfort of your home, and let the Word of God encourage your heart in this time.

*Of course, you can still watch Hour of Power on Saturday nights at 6:30 p.m. PT or on our website at hourofpower.org/episode or Facebook page (the full episode is posted on Facebook at 11:00 a.m. PT on Sundays).

As Christians, this is also a great opportunity for us to lean into our trust in Jesus and the goodness of His plan. He is bigger than this crisis and His peace brings consolation to even the most troubled hearts. Today, I pray for an extra measure of the Holy Spirit’s protection, grace, and strength to envelope you, and I encourage you to embrace a spirit of faith rather than fear. As disciples of Jesus, we have the unique opportunity to bring His Hand of hope and healing to a troubled world. Let’s answer that call by being prudent in taking care of ourselves and our families, but let’s not panic. The God of Creation holds us, and I believe that He can and will use this season to bring glory to His Name.

To help, here are a few verses to meditate on over the next few weeks:

— “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

— “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)

— “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6,7 (NIV)

I look forward to continuing to worship with you online and on Hour of Power. In the meantime, know that I’m praying for you and asking the Lord for an extra measure of His peace that surpasses understanding in your life and in the lives of those around you.

God loves you and so do I,

Pastor Bobby

I’m a young woman from Germany (so, sorry for my english!). I was glad to read that HoP had decided to skip all in-person worship and transfer it to the internet. If I believe the media, Germany is at least a week ahead of the U.S. in this crisis. And I must admit: It is hard. Life has turned upside down. We have a lot of social restrictions – to our own safety and to prevent harm from the elder and weak people in our society.
We all are going through tough times. But we have God on our side. Day by day, minute by minute. First it was hard to see. There was so much fear. But then we could see the work of the Holy Spirit:
Solidary communities emerged almost over night all across the country. In very creative ways people found ways to help the vulnaribly people, the homeless, the poor and those in need.
This is a bad crisis – no question. But in this crisis there is a chance for change.
And hope can be found in the craziest places.
Don’t give up hope. God is right here with us. Maybe more than ever before…
