“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”

– Isaiah 55:12

Today, I want to share more about the subject of peace—specifically, peace for the believer. Peace for the believer is rooted in faith, and faith is rooted in trusting what the Bible says over what we see in and around us. True peace is about not giving permission to negativity. It’s about not opening the door to negative words, circumstances, people, or reports, and not letting negativity get to you.

You can repeat in your mind or say aloud, “Not letting!” Not letting means the responsibility is yours. No one else will guard your mind for you. No one is hovering over you, monitoring the music you listen to, the news you watch, the reports you receive, or the friends you keep. No one is regulating that for you—it’s up to you. If you want to have peace, Shalom, the fullness of life, it all comes down to not letting negativity in.

My friend, you are always in control of the permissions you grant to yourself and others. Don’t let negative or sinful words, or discouraging reports, enter your mind and heart. Don’t let fear or worry take hold. You can say no. You can speak to yourself and say, “Get out!” or “No, sir” or “No, ma’am.” Ask the Holy Spirit to help you starve the habits that rob you of peace, and they will die. Are you ready to starve your fear today? Are you ready to feed your faith? I’m ready to starve my fear, feed my faith, and walk in the peace that is meant for believers!

Prayer

Father, I long to fully embrace the peace You offer me as a believer. Help me to walk daily in that peace, trusting Your promises above all else.

Reflection

In what ways can you become more intentional about guarding the permissions you grant to yourself and others?
