“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33
![]() I want to tell you about a blind man named Ben Underwood who invented what I believe is known as sonar sight, which basically means he trained himself to see using sound waves. He can hear sound waves bouncing off the walls by making a clicking sound with his mouth. He can “see” the items around him by using his ears; he can pick up the phone, stroll around his house, and even ride a bike by generating a specific sound. Ben, who was only three years old at the time, was diagnosed with cancer in his eyes and required surgery. He awoke with no eyes after the operation, but his mother, Aquanetta, was there, and when he protested, “Momma, I can’t see,” she remarked, “You can see.” “You can see with your hands,” she continued, taking his hands and placing them on her arm. “You can see with your nose,” she added as she held her arm up to his nose so he could smell her perfume. “Ben, you can see with your ears,” she whispered into his ears after that. You may not see as clearly as you once did, but you can see.” While everyone else assumed he was blind, his mother assured him that he wasn’t as blind as he believed. She taught him to be a possibility thinker by starting his journey without seeing, and that’s how he developed a technique of “seeing” with his other senses. Friend, today, I’d like to encourage you to never lose sight of your “What if?” voice. When life throws you a curveball, keep asking yourself “What if?” even if the obstacles appear to be insurmountable. Nothing is impossible for the Son of God if He can come to earth as a baby and condense the entirety of His Godhead into a body of human flesh, then die and rise again! That is why I am always rooting for you and encouraging you to enjoy the life He has given you. When you stay with Jesus, the possibilities are infinite because He can do anything through you; all you need is trust. The world says you can’t, but God says you can because He has triumphed over it! Isn’t that a life-altering realization? |
Prayer
Jesus, I am eternally grateful that you have triumphed over the world, and I thank you for providing me with limitless opportunities.
Reflection
What are your “What ifs” as we come closer to the start of a new year? Make a list of them, pray over them, and wait for God to move in your life.
