“When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed that she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, ‘Peter is at the door!’”
– Acts 12:12-14
![]() Do you believe in the power of prayer? I think most of us, if we really understood all that lifting our voices to Heaven can and does accomplish in this world, would spend a lot less time complaining and a lot more time praying. In fact, as we revisit the story of Peter being set free from jail by the hands of an angel, on the other side of that miracle was a group of people fervently crying out to God for his deliverance. They weren’t just gathered at John Mark’s mom’s house to watch football or chew the fat, they were on their knees pleading with the Lord for the life of their beloved friend. In fact, they were so deep in intercession when Peter came knocking on the door that they didn’t hear it, so a servant named Rhoda answered. She was super-excited to see him, so she ran to tell the others that he had returned, but forgot to open the door and let him in. Amazingly, not only had the believer’s request for Peter’s life to be spared been granted, but he had come back to them safe, sound, and free! My friend, there is no better way to spend your time than in prayer! Far from being a rote and lifeless activity, lifting your voice and spirit to Jesus is the key to experiencing His power and sharing it with others. The last time you were delivered from something that felt like it would consume you, remember that there were people hounding Heaven on your behalf. In fact, the Bible says that the Holy Spirit Himself intercedes according to the heart of God when you pray. I urge you to quit complaining, stop analyzing, and start praying whenever you are tempted to worry, then watch as things around you begin to change! |
Prayer
Jesus, I believe you respond to my intercessions, so remind me to pray whenever I can.

How has God answered prayer in your life?
