“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” -Galatians 2:20
All of us have a deep need for friendship. It’s a part of how God made us. For a human being, solitary confinement is a type of torture. All of us need to have friends.
So, Jesus offers to all of us his friendship. He does that so when everyone else fails you, when everyone else drops the ball on you, when those that you love hurt you and harm you, you will know that he will always love you. He will always be there for you. He will always walk with you.
Live in this friendship; just dwell there. The Greek word he uses when he says remain or abide in my life is a word called “menno.” And menno is the same word that you would use if you were going to take up residence in a household. Live in your friendship with Jesus.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for your forever love and your companionship. I dwell in you. I abide in your love. I live in my friendship with you. Amen.
REFLECTION: What does being a friend of Christ mean to you?
