Serving From a Place of Abundance

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

– 1 Peter 4:10

Yesterday, I shared how others are filled up and blessed when your life is reflected by an overflow. You can be filled with the Word of God, and spill over with positivity, fresh vision, compassion, kindness, love, and openness! How do we serve from this position of abundance? Doesn’t Scripture tell us to become a servant of all? Jesus taught the disciples in Mark 9:35 “…‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.’ ” Yes, this is true, but we also must remember that service is a skill!

For instance, do you remember a time when someone served you poorly? You wished they would go away because there was no sense of service at all. Many of us do that without even realizing it. We smother our children, our employees, or our coworkers, often because we’re not serving from a place of abundance. If you have not invested in yourself, there is no abundance in desperation, thirst, or hunger. You fail to recognize that you’re not really helping as much as you hoped. The lack of results may make you feel even more worthless and empty than before, making you want to give up.

Friend, by investing and empowering yourself, God will bless you with the ability to serve from a place of abundance. Faith and love are what God desires for you to build in your life! Growing into abundance allows you to pour yourself into the lives of others! Ultimately, God can use you as His gift — not only do you benefit yourself, but also others, your country, your school, your work, and ultimately the world!

Father, I ask for the blessing of being able to serve from a position of abundance.

Do you see yourself as a gift from God? Describe how you can benefit others.
