“I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

– Matthew 25:36

If you want more from life and your Christian walk, I encourage you to show up for life! Today, we are increasingly living in a world where we don’t show up. We send a text and apologize the next day. We don’t answer when the phone rings, and it’s someone we care about. We don’t reply to emails when they come in. We often fail to respond when we’ve been invited or asked to help. Our thinking is that it will be handled by someone else. However, I encourage you to be different from everyone else. Show up for life!

One of our former pastors, Jim Kok, taught an amazing class. One big question was how you can help someone who is going through trauma, whether they lost a loved one, are in the hospital, or had some terrible surprise. As a pastor, how do you help them? It’s easy to be tempted to fix problems or offer advice, even if you’re not an expert, but that’s not the best course of action.

Friend, often, the best solution is to simply show up and be present. As Pastor Kok famously said, “90% of ministry is just showing up.” Don’t worry about what you are going to say, the Lord will supply the words. Don’t worry about being perfect or anything else, just show up! That’s 90% of the process; you’ll figure the rest out as you go. Regardless of your mistakes or your worries, what will matter most is that you show up and share the love of Jesus!

Prayer

Father, give me the strength to show up for others without worrying about being perfect!

How can you change the scenarios in which you fail to show up?

  1. My comment is that I have no one close to worry about as to say, however, todays devotional is based on two different ones? Meaning, you asked a question “experience the doing” from Galatians 6:9 for May 04 2024. The other one for today is “showing up for life” from Matthew 25:36. But the one where you ask the question about “experience the doing” when I click on read more, it cannot find that page? However, the other one for today, “showing up for life I found at the top where i clicked on connect, and it came up, so that I can ask, does this have anything to do with what your talking about for example? I think that it does, and these are glitch’s in life we have no control over them! But the times we are in and heading towards, is God said He will turn our knowledge into foolishness, or shall I say hi-tech way of life!
