“We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”
– Hebrews 6:12
Have you ever considered that we all need small stresses to grow and be happy? This is a fundamental aspect of human nature—an unbreakable rule. We need small stresses in life to develop and find joy. I have shared before that there are two types of stress: the first is called eustress, which is the type of stress that benefits you, and the second is distress, which causes harm.
Whenever you’re feeling stressed, you’re usually experiencing one of two types of stress: eustress or distress. You might recall a basketball game, a football game, or any sport you participated in that was very stressful but ultimately beneficial. On the other hand, you may also remember a traumatic moment in your life that was stressful and had negative effects. Interestingly, we often categorize eustress—stress that has positive benefits—as being related to activities like sports, while we associate distress—with negative effects—directly with trauma. However, the type of experience you are having doesn’t necessarily determine whether it’s eustress or distress. In other words, the nature of the situation does not dictate the effect it has on you. Friend, research has revealed an interesting insight: your perception of stress significantly influences its impact on your life. If you view stress as a positive force, you are more likely to grow and thrive through stressful experiences. Conversely, if you perceive stress as a negative aspect to be avoided, it is likely to have detrimental effects on both your well-being and your life. Ultimately, seeking God’s perspective on stress is essential in shaping its impact on your soul and personal growth. |
Prayer
