“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” -Romans 12:2
We often think our identities need to be supplemented. We develop this temptation as we compare ourselves to the wide array of intelligent, successful, beautiful, young people out there. We compare ourselves people that are farther along than we are and have done more than we’ve done. You don’t have to supplement your identity: you don’t have to exaggerate, you don’t have to hide, you don’t have to play it safe, and you don’t have to worry about what your opinion will do to other people. Share it anyway. You don’t have to worry about the fact that you need something. Tell people that you need them! Living an honest and vulnerable life is the only way to truly feel alive.
PRAYER: Thank you, God, for encouraging me to be my true self. Help me stop comparing myself to others.
REFLECTION: Do you try to supplement your identity?
