We talked yesterday about filling our plate with pure Spiritual food so that we aren’t eating stale leftovers. Although the temptation is to prioritize every other area of life ahead of our walk with Jesus, I want to convince you today that putting Him first in all things, including money and finances, is the only way to truly experience abundant life.
The reason we tend to make other things a priority in our lives is because the world we live in is so competitive. We look at those around us who seem to be achieving more, doing more, and succeeding more and watching them makes us want to take the fast road that leads to nowhere. In essence, we neglect our personal walk with God so that our broader life can be a success. However, friend, as a pastor who has witnessed a lot of human pain and suffering, I want to tell you that pouring your energy into the wrong activities is setting yourself up for a life of regret and sorrow. True success comes from learning, reflecting, pondering, meditating, and spending time with the Holy Spirit, who plants seeds of truth within you, which, like a garden, only grow beautiful in His time.
There is perhaps no area of life in which this applies more than in the arena of money and finances. We are all worried about money; even when you have it, you’re worried about it. But I want you to know that God cares about your financial situation. I don’t believe that He wants you to be poor, nor do I think He wants everybody to be rich. Although some people are called to have money, the greatest way to achieve true wealth is to attain treasure in Heaven. When you store up Spiritual riches, you will see victory in every area of your life, not just your bank account! Isn’t that awesome news?
