“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
– Matthew 11:28-30
![]() I want to inform you that you can be a peaceful person right now! Even if you’re busy preparing the Thanksgiving turkey or getting your home ready for guests, your soul needs to relax. Amid a storm, you may have peace of mind while still growing smarter, sharper, and closer to your friends and family — the key is knowing that you will get through! Today, I want to argue that it’s the storms of life that will lead you to serenity. The more time you spend with God, the more faith and confidence you gain in His ability to help you. In a storm, His loyalty is more clearly demonstrated, for His stability is both highly needed and more powerfully experienced. Just like the stabilizers of a ship don’t help passengers until the seas are rough, the calm that Jesus brings to our life does the same. We don’t see or appreciate the peace and stability He brings to our situation until the storms are raging. Furthermore, the more storms He safely guides us through, the more faith we have in His faithful deliverance. Friend, on this Thanksgiving Day, I ask you to pause and rest in God’s peace, even in the middle of your storm. Know that no matter what you are going through today, whether it’s the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the loneliness of death and loss, or the stress of damaged family connections, your heart, mind, and spirit will be at ease. You can be a tranquil person who sincerely expresses gratitude in all circumstances because you know Jesus will always help you through your difficulty! Isn’t that fantastic news? |
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for your promise to always see me through my storm. Amid my troubles, I choose to lean into your serenity and stability, and I receive your rest today.
Reflection
Consider how the storms in your life have led you to God’s serenity and rest.
