Being Comfortable
“The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.” – Matthew 13:22 Here’s a scriptural warning: We often see in Scripture, warnings directed at the rich. However, a more relevant approach for the modern reader is to interpret these warnings as being about comfort, not just wealth. Most people who read biblical passages about the rich assume it doesn’t apply to them—they think of someone wealthier. I once met a billionaire who insisted he wasn’t rich. I’ve shared this story before, but it’s worth noting: he told me, “I got into the billionaires club, but I don’t feel rich because I’m not like Bill Gates.” To put this in perspective, over 90% of the people in this room would be considered wealthy by the standards of the Roman world
