Don’t Negotiate Against Yourself

“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” – 1 John 2:1 Today, I would like to share this truth with you: Because you are God’s beloved and live under His loving care, you don’t have to negotiate against yourself anymore. Regardless of what we believe to be true about ourselves, we should never presumptuously think that we are unworthy of God’s blessings. Jesus’ resurrection has paved the way for us to receive God’s best. Allow me to illustrate how life in God’s Kingdom can play out like a modern courtroom with a twist. As Christians, the Bible says that Jesus is “our attorney,” and we’re in the court of law and being judged by Satan, our enemy. As the defendant, you are on trial. Christ stands beside

Who Am I?

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” – Ephesians 1:3-6 Happy Thanksgiving from the Hour of Power and Shepherds Grove family! We can each take an opportunity to pause and simply practice gratitude. We can be thankful to God for His generous mercy, compassion, glory, and, most importantly, His amazing love. The more we thank Him, the more we will naturally thank and bless those around us.  A few days ago, we shared

Goodness and Love Follow You!

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” – Psalm 23:4-6 Today, we’re going to continue our verse-by-verse breakdown of Psalm 23, as we examine and meditate on the sufficiency we have in Jesus.  Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. No matter what you go through, like the King James version says, even if death hovers over you, you have nothing to be afraid of. There is absolutely no place you can go where

Deception

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8 While it’s not pleasant to think about, it’s important to remember that there is a kingdom of darkness surrounding us and that as Christians, we have an adversary named Satan who is serious about wreaking havoc in our lives. Though we often envision the forces of hell warring in acts of blatant evil, violence, or malice, the primary strategy of the devil is always deception. The enemy is an angel of light, and he is really good at slyly deceiving us so that we begin to fall away from abundant life. He knows that if he can get us to doubt the Lord’s love in any fashion, he gains a foothold, and we start to suffer. By convincing us ever-so-subtly that our best existence is

Love Goes and Love Gives

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” – 1 John 4:7-9 Today is Valentine’s Day, and though it’s become synonymous with roses, hearts, and candy, the true purpose of this holiday is to honor love. Of course, popular culture has given us thousands of songs and images to convey its own version of this mysterious virtue, but the fact remains that there is only one way to define love, and that’s God. The Bible says that God is love, and if we invert that phrase, we learn that love is also God. Since the Lord is the

10 Transforming Truths from “You are Beloved”

We are super-excited about Bobby’s New Book, You are Beloved, coming out on May 29! Not only does it have the potential to change your life, but through your support, we believe it has the power to impact the lives of millions with the message of Jesus’ dignity, freedom, and unconditional love! Based on the Creed of the Beloved, the book was originally inspired by the teachings of some of Bobby’s favorite authors, Henri Nouwen and Dallas Willard.  As he learned from them, he began to focus on the truth that he was wholeheartedly loved by God. Eventually, he made it a habit to recite a version of the creed to himself every day. As he repeated the words that he was not what he did or what had, he noticed that he became a more joyful, content and all-around better person. So transforming was this practice in his
