Change Your Philosophy

“…for, ‘Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 2:16 Change your philosophy to get the life you want. We each have ideals, standards, or beliefs that have become our personal philosophies. Your philosophy is perfectly designed to give you the results you’re getting. Yes, that may sound harsh. I’m not saying this to judge anyone. I’m saying this to encourage you. We are always tempted to blame others when we’re not quite where we want to be. Change your philosophy today. You have the power in you, through Jesus, to build any kind of life you want. He’s laid it before you, but it is easy to place the blame on others. Nobody plays a video game and blames the dragon who’s guarding the princess by saying, there’s a dragon in my way, that

Character Produces Hope

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” – Romans 5:3-5 Did you know that perseverance builds character, and character produces hope? The word “hope” in the Bible is translated from the Greek word “elpis.” It is defined as “joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation.” For some individuals, their suffering, pressures, and tough situations have actually transformed them into positive and hopeful people. Despite everything, they’ve learned to walk through life with an inner strength and joy that’s evidenced to everyone.  Some of the believers I know who have gone through the worst situations are amongst the most positive people I know. Because of their experiences, they

Allow the Lord to do the Real Work

“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” – Philippians 2:13 In continuation of yesterday’s theme of renovating your spiritual home, you may be surprised to learn that I was briefly in real estate appraisal, and worked for a real estate investment company. These occupations look at the values of renovated homes for bank funding; some houses were impeccable, and others you could see were prepared as a flip. Mostly, flips look great on the outside, but as you take a closer look, you see it is not upgraded with the same quality as a home being occupied by the one renovating it.  When we talk about renovating our spiritual houses, if it’s just for everyone else, it’s going to look and feel like a flip. It’ll look good on the outside, but when people really get to

His Ways Are Higher

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:9 Have you ever had a major setback in life? Many people suffered some sort of a setback during the pandemic. As we continue to talk about work and the different places we invest our time and energy, it often brings to mind situations in which we felt loss. We did everything right and yet, through no fault of our own, we lost something important. I’m willing to bet that many of you reading this have lost a job or a business. If you’re in the ministry, maybe you lost a congregation or your church shut down. Whatever the case, when you have done your very best, and it still doesn’t work out, it can leave you feeling discouraged and disillusioned. Sometimes, you may wonder if
