What Forgiveness Is

Blessed are all who wait for him!” – Isaiah 30:18 As we conclude our series on forgiveness and now that we’ve covered what forgiveness is not and how we can set boundaries in the process of letting go, I want to talk about what forgiveness really is. Forgiveness is entrusting justice to God. Forgiveness is acknowledging that a person hurt or wounded you, but then choosing to let it go. You’re not going to forget what happened or say it was okay, but you’re going to wish the best for the person who harmed you. Called to Reach the World

“Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: ‘All nations will be blessed through you.’ ” – Galatians 3:8 In Jesus’ day, the idea of holiness had become very important to the Jewish people. Babylonian exile and captivity experienced by the Jews five hundred years earlier due to embracing pagan practices caused them to build a fence around the Torah. This meant that you obeyed the law perfectly and never violated it. For first-century Jews, many lived out holiness by following rules and legalism, but were bereft of blessing others. So much of the heart to reach people had been lost because they were afraid to fall out of God’s favor and into captivity once again. During this time, I think there was this huge separation between God’s people and those outside of their culture they were intended to reach.

Today, I’d want to offer some specifics on how this manifests itself in our lives, particularly during this holiday season, which is so focused on giving. When you tithe, I believe you make your church your default. This means that if you’re not sure what to give to, you give the entire 10% to your home fellowship. Discomfort Can be Good

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6 Do you know what a Chinese finger trap is? It’s the woven tube thing where you put two fingers, usually one from each hand, and they become trapped when you try to pull them out. It’s essentially a kinetic mystery, and it’s frequently one of the first things children encounter. The trap is interesting in that the harder you try to get your fingers out, the tighter it becomes; the only way out is to press in! The tube loosens and you are free when you push both fingers toward the middle. A seatbelt in a car works in the same way: the stronger you pull, the tighter it becomes. The Anointing of Nourishment
