Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! All month, we have been talking about what Advent means.  Advent is a season of waiting, of gratefulness, and especially, and of hope. It’s a time of believing that in the milieu of life — in all of the challenges and suffering that we face — that somehow, God is going to break through. And He did. It’s so easy for us to get to the place where we tell ourselves: God’s done with me, God’s mad at me, my future is dark. But God is going to break through. I want to affirm in your life to believe something good is always coming. Something good is always coming for you; don’t give up hope. Here at Hour of Power, we strive to put our faith in the promise from God that good things are coming for our lives, for our ministry, and for those around us. In this

Christmas Traditions with Hannah

By Hannah Schuller  A draft from the window meets my elbow. Aha! I find the culprit; I retuck the edge of my blanket behind my elbow. There… back to my cocoon of warmth. Amy Grant’s voice fills the room, “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jackfrost nipping at your nose…” “Have y’all ever roasted chestnuts on an open fire?” I ask my soon to be sister-in-laws. No one had. “What do roasted chestnuts even taste like?” asks Kelsey. [3 candy cane shaped cookies, 2 mugs of coffee, & one Christmas movie later] “Chestnuts for us to roast on an open fire, ladies,” says Brittany holding up a sack as she walks through the back door. A spark of excitement rises in me. An hour later the three of us, all puffed up from layers of clothes and winter gear, are standing around a fire open to the night sky. We

Festive “Feliz Navidad” Staff Breakfast

Each year, a few weeks before Christmas, the Hour of Power and Shepherd’s Grove staff gathers for a special staff Christmas celebration. This year we celebrated the holidays with a “Feliz Navidad” themed breakfast party! Our creative committee crafted beautiful Mexican decorations, and came up with some fun games like “Pin the mustache on the pastor,” “Mexican Loteria,” and “Draw a Christmas tree.” Colleagues could also make some great pictures together in the handcrafted photo booth. We had a great time together, and we love to share some photo’s with you!

Our Staff Gets Festive This Christmas … With Their Doors!

During this Christmas season at Hour of Power and Shepherd’s Grove, we enjoy celebrating as a staff. In addition to our staff Christmas party, we had some friendly competition between offices to get into the spirit. Our different departments participated in our door decorating contest by decorating either one or both of the doors to their offices! We had some very creative doors that we want to share with you! Jim Dawson was our special guest judge for the occasion, and he decided that it was a tie for the winner.  Our HR/Payroll and Communications offices both won, and will enjoy a pizza party with Bobby! We hope your Christmas season is as much fun as we have here on our campus! If you’re at Shepherd’s Grove this Christmas, swing by to check out the doors!

The Stars Were Brightly Shining: ‘O Holy Night’ a Christmas Success!

Last Friday, we kicked off the holiday season with our annual “O Holy Night” concert at Shepherd’s Grove! It was an amazing night of inspiring music, powerful scripture, and joyous celebration. The highlights include: The Hour of Power Choir, conducted by Dr. Irene Messoloras, kicked off the concert by cheerfully singing “Joy to the World.” Later, they performed “Angels We Have Heard on High.” Pastor Bobby, Hannah, Haven, and Cohen Schuller lit the advent candles and explained what the Advent season means for us. We also got to witness a very cute moment of Cohen expressing his love for chicken nuggets! The Voices of Hope Children’s Choir, conducted by Sarah Grandpre, sweetly performed “Somewhere in My Memory” and “Do You Hear What I Hear.” Opera Singers (and real-life married couple) Courtney Taylor and Todd Strange powerfully sang “Love Came Down” together. Later, Todd Strange performed his solo “Where Else Would
