The Anointing of Healing
“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” – James 5:14 Yesterday, we saw that the Holy Spirit’s anointing on our lives makes us a source of wisdom and light to others. Today, I want to talk about yet another type of authority we receive in our divine consecration, and that is healing. Just as the oil used in ancient anointing rituals had power to hasten recovery and restore health, so our lives as Christians are set apart to be a soothing salve on the world’s wounds. Interestingly, the medicinal benefits of olive oil are many, and they include decreasing bodily inflammation, improving heart health, aiding in digestion, easing pain, and cutting down on the time it takes to recover from burns and wounds.
