Be Like Jesus!

“And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.” – Matthew 10:10 Do you want to be more like Jesus? If so, then you must do what He did. One of the things we most often miss as we study the Gospels is that our Savior’s disciples called Him Rabbi, and with that title came the assumption that they would not only follow Him but attempt to do everything He did. In ancient Jewish culture, disciples (who were typically teenagers) wanted to be a clone of their teacher, almost to an extreme. If he was left-handed, they would try to write left-handed. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” – John 14:12-14 In Jesus’ day, the call to be a disciple was a call to be just like the rabbi you were following. Back then, you might literally see a rabbi walking ahead with a few young men following behind him trying to cover the exact same footprints.
