Easter

The Suffering Savior

“Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, ‘Hail, king of the Jews!’ And they slapped him in the face.” – John 19:1-3 Having just celebrated Easter, the death and resurrection of our Savior Jesus is fresh on our minds. There’s no better time to remember the long and painful road our Savior endured to get to the cross. After three years of difficult public ministry that were no doubt physically, emotionally and spiritually draining, He was betrayed by one of His own disciples. He was turned over to Roman authorities, who, after pressure from the zealots among His people, agreed to have Him killed. As if the sentence of death by crucifixion wasn’t horrendous enough, He was beaten to

Resurrection, Redemption, and Restoration

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.’” – John 11:25 Happy Easter! This is the day we embrace the promise that because Jesus rose from the grave, He makes everything come alive! In this long-awaited spring season — after we’ve lived through one of the most challenging years in recent history — we can look around and see the fruit of restoration pointing us directly to our Lord’s resurrection power. Though the world has grieved much since the start of the pandemic, these losses have yielded clarified perspective and new hope. And while we will never be quite the same as we were pre-COVID, we can see how our Heavenly Father has worked in and through difficulties to bring us back to the center of His heart. As we’ve been forced to let go

Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller Team Celebrates Easter with Egg Hunt

This morning the Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller team took a few minutes to celebrate the upcoming Easter weekend by hunting for Easter eggs. The eggs were hidden throughout the Hour of Power offices in both the Jenny Hart building and also the admin building. The results were a fun experience for the team in the midst of a hectic Holy Week! The team is currently actively working on getting ready for Easter. Shepherd’s Grove Presbyterian Church will be hosting a Good Friday service at 4:00 PM PST tomorrow. On Easter, there will be morning services at 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00. Between services there will be activities in the Fellowship Hall including games, a photo booth, face painting, and Easter treats! “Because He Lives”: Life is Worth the Living

Dawning the Hour of Power stage last Easter, Marla Kavanaugh graced us with her operatic vocals a beautiful rendition of “Because He Lives,” accompanied by Dr. Marc Riley and the Hour of Power Orchestra. While this song perfect compliments the Easter season, it can be encouraging all year round. It was written by Gloria and William J. Gather in 1971, during a time of societal distress, when negative headlines of assassination and war clogged the media and the minds of all who read them. During this time, Gloria and William were expecting their third child. It was because of this miracle they were able to clear a path within their troubled minds to write the clarifying lyrics: How sweet to hold our newborn baby, And feel the pride, and joy he gives; But greater still the calm assurance, This child can face uncertain day because He lives The assurance that

Holy Week at Shepherd’s Grove

At Shepherd’s Grove, we were blessed with an outstanding Holy Week this Easter thanks to the tireless work of our staff and congregation. Beginning on Palm Sunday and ending with Easter Sunday, the time was filled with anticipation and excitement, to reflect upon the most important week of the year. The celebration began when our own Voices of Hope Children’s Choir graced the stage on Palm Sunday, waving palm branches over the procession, followed by a dynamic flow of vocal arrangements. Added to our already robust musical offerings was the powerful sound of bagpipes. What an amazing gift! Good Friday at Shepherd’s Grove was interwoven with moving words of Scripture during our Modern service, followed by the gift of Handel’s Messiah, performed by the Hour of Power Choir and conducted by our very own Don Neuen. Both services were well attended by our congregants and supporters of Don’s recent retirement.
