Discerning Worldly Deception

“Some time later, he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah. The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, ‘See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.’” – Judges 16:4,5 As we continue looking at the story of Samson, it behooves us to examine the circumstances that ultimately led to his demise. Since he was a source of constant frustration to the Philistines, they wanted more than anything to know the origin of his strength. If they could figure out where his might came from, they could cut him down at his point of weakness. Enter Delilah. She was a beautiful Philistine woman, and Samson was

Perfectly Prepared

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28 To wrap up our discussion about David and Goliath, I want to share a final thought with you. If you’re feeling alone and frightened in this strange season, it’s important to remember that the man after God’s heart began his life in obscurity. Yes, he had a large family, but he was often by himself, looking after his sheep. Though it afforded him quiet times to be with the Lord and fortified his soul for the things he would face later, there must have been moments when he was lonely and afraid. As he was approached by a ferocious lion and a hungry bear and required to slay them by himself, I’m certain he questioned his lot in life. While he felt

God’s Word

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12 First, I want you to get in your mind that historically, in its context, the Bible is an unbelievable book. I think anyone could argue that it’s the most important piece of literature in human history. It is three thousand years old! It took a span of a thousand years, several authors, three continents, and three languages to put it together. Not to mention, God would appear to people in theophany, meaning that He would break the rules of physics and appear to people every century or so, and those things are accounted in the Bible too. God’s revelation through His Holy Spirit comes through so that mankind can have divine revelation; They can have

About the Music: “Let There Be Peace on Earth”

We are so blessed by our Voices of Hope Children’s Choir! Here they are performing their rendition of “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” accompanied by the Hour of Power Choir and Orchestra. This beautiful anthem was developed in 1955, with the words written by Jill Jackson and the melody by her husband, Sy Miller. Jill, after having experienced a sharp dip in her depression which led to her attempted — and failed — suicide, her heart then opened wide and willing to God’s unconditional love. She discovered from that moment on that she has a purpose, and her life and talent for music were valuable. A decade later, Sy and Jill went to a California retreat in the mountains where they met an array of young people with various socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. This week-long retreat was dedicated to exploring friendship through education and conversation. Introducing their song
