About the Music: “Let There Be Peace on Earth”

We are so blessed by our Voices of Hope Children’s Choir! Here they are performing their rendition of “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” accompanied by the Hour of Power Choir and Orchestra. This beautiful anthem was developed in 1955, with the words written by Jill Jackson and the melody by her husband, Sy Miller. Jill, after having experienced a sharp dip in her depression which led to her attempted — and failed — suicide, her heart then opened wide and willing to God’s unconditional love. She discovered from that moment on that she has a purpose, and her life and talent for music were valuable. A decade later, Sy and Jill went to a California retreat in the mountains where they met an array of young people with various socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. This week-long retreat was dedicated to exploring friendship through education and conversation. Introducing their song

A Rewarding Practice

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 For many of us, we find ourselves going through life in the rhythms. We look back and we wonder, Where did all that time go, and that makes us feel more depressed or sad. Sometimes we find ourselves going through life wondering where God is. We live from a place of scarcity and insufficiency. But today I want to encourage you that there is a way to completely just open up heaven in your life, to completely experience everything that heaven has to offer, and it’s one word: gratitude. Regular practices of gratitude are proved, both in the Bible and science, to completely fill your heart with happiness and joy. Not only that, but it actually makes you a more successful, less stressed out, and healthier person. There’s never been a

In All Circumstances

“Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. Rejoice always,  pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18 In 1st Thessalonians, Paul is writing to a persecuted church. They are a religious minority: they are slandered, they are beaten, they receive no justice. Many of them are Romans — and Romans had certain rights — but those rights were being thrown away because they were Christian. Paul tells them, “Make sure nobody pays back wrong for wrong.” This is such a message our world needs today, by the way. “But always strive to do what is good for each and for everyone else. Rejoice always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

A Posture

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” -Colossians 3:15 Gratitude is a posture in the body that you can take on. It enables you to have a completely open heart — one that recognizes the many wonderful gifts that are in your life. It’s a discipline to say that even though I’m ambitious, I’m hungry, I have dreams, and I have goals, God has me where I am right now. It’s being thankful to God for all that he’s given you. God is moving you, even now, from being in a place and mindset of scarcity to being in a spirit of sufficiency. He’s moving to place  where you can say, with joy, “I am enough, I have enough, God has given me everything I need, and I can enjoy today with joy!” You
